What took that man so long?

I was wondering this myself. Why was my last full-length album in 2006? Did it really take me 5 years to do this? The answer: Yes. And no….

Here’s what happened in between last album and this one:

-I spent a semester in Spain.
-I went to Lebanon.
-Got engaged to the flippin’ hot Lane Marie and traveled through a bit of the Middle East.
-I finished my last semester of skoo. Graduated.
-A couple weeks later we got married, 2007.
-Lane’s Grandmother died.
-Returned and looked for work. I taught guitar, substitute taught, landscaped, and assistant taught.
-I got a real, full-time job, August 2008.
-I started working on the project, using the same old tools (mbox + sm57 = lethal, but old).
-I recorded for the better part of a year.
-My Dell tower crashed. And after a good wiping, it came back slower than ever.
-I decided to scrap the sm57 sessions in favor of going for it with new equipment.
-Trips to Portland and Rome.
-I waited half a year till we could afford a new computer. Bought it. 2009. (Thank you. ;)
-We had our son, Leif. We rejoiced. I took a paternal leave of absence from recording.
-New computer didn’t work with old hardware. Firmware update.
-Started recording in earnest, early to mid-2009. Moved into recording space mid-2009.
-Took a family trip to Turkey, June 2010. (A good deal of freaking out/preparation went into the trip.)
-Continued recording during free time (and grace time – see Lane) up until send off.
-Sent album to West West Side Music for mastering, January 19th, 2011.
-Back and forth with them lasted until July 28th.
-Got artwork in order with Blake Studdard.
-Sent off everything to Bellwether Manufacturing for printing, mid-August.
-Approved for printing early September.
-And here we wait.
